Pikes Peak Tornado

Restoration Project

Colorado Springs, Colorado

On July 20, 2023, a tornado touched down on Pikes Peak at 2 p.m., just above 9,000 feet in elevation. Meteorologists estimate the storm reached wind speeds of 108 mph along its 2.18-mile path between mile markers 5 and 8 along the Pikes Peak Highway, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

In partnership with the City of Colorado Springs Utilities and Pikes Peak – America’s Mountain, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the Forest Service we will work together to remove uprooted and damaged trees across approximately 200 acres of National Forest System land.
