Jerome Miller/Miller Gulch

Bailey, CO

Located on a high-priority landscape on the Pike National Forest, this 1,521 acre project was completed in just over two years. Forest thinning and mastication treatments conducted between the High Meadow and Buffalo Creek burn scars will improve forest health and resiliency. This area has the potential to slow a high-intensity wildfire and protect local communities, watersheds, wildlife, and the drinking water for millions of people.

Key components included stand cleaning/thinning, mechanical fuels reduction, non-commercial cleaning/thinning, fuel piling, and the removal and decking of timber. Collaboration with the contractor allowed for the innovative use of non-saw timber material.
