Project Overview

The Nevada Energy Resilience Corridors Project is a multi-agency effort focused on reducing wildfire risk and protecting energy infrastructure through the creation of fuel breaks along powerline routes. These “resilience corridors” are exclusion zones where hazardous trees and dense vegetation are removed to improve forest health and lower the risk of wildfire around utility lines.

The 5,300-acre project area is divided into three zones, each extending farther from the powerlines. Work includes thinning overgrown forest stands, removing dead or structurally unsafe trees, and restoring more natural and resilient forest conditions. These treatments are especially critical in the Lake Tahoe Basin, where wildfire, drought, and disease have stressed both the landscape and nearby communities.

Beyond fuel reduction, the project supports habitat restoration, improves trails and recreational access, and protects wetlands, streams, and cultural sites. Operations are carefully timed and adjusted to avoid impacts to sensitive species and high-value habitats.

Our Role

Stewardship West foresters are providing key technical support, including unit layout, boundary marking, area determination, cruise planning and timber cruising, as well as the development of silvicultural prescriptions. Their work helps ensure that forest treatments are thoughtfully implemented, ecologically sound, and aligned with long-term forest health objectives.

This project reflects the value of coordinated partnerships in achieving meaningful and lasting landscape resilience.
