Project Overview
The Modoc Forest-Wide WUI and Corridors Environmental Assessment is an early-stage fuels reduction and forest health project focused on the Klamath River Basin Landscape. Stewardship West is working with Modoc National Forest to identify high-priority areas for treatment, with an emphasis on Wildland Urban Interfaces (WUIs), road systems, and utility corridors where wildfire risk threatens infrastructure and public safety.
Once a treatment site is selected and approved by the Forest Service, an Environmental Assessment will be conducted by a team of resource specialists. The assessment is anticipated to be completed by spring 2027. This project will help improve ecological function, reduce hazardous fuels, and increase forest resilience in a region prone to high-intensity wildfire.
Our Role
Stewardship West is assisting with the initial planning phase by supporting site evaluations and treatment strategy development. We are helping to locate areas where fuels reduction will provide the greatest benefit to communities, infrastructure, and access routes.
As the project progresses, our team will collaborate with Forest Service specialists to complete the Environmental Assessment and prepare for future implementation. This early involvement allows us to support effective, science-based restoration that protects both people and ecosystems within the Klamath River Basin.
