Project Overview
Upper Mokelumne River Watershed Authority is a fuels reduction and forest health project located in eastern Amador County on the Eldorado National Forest. The project includes thinning treatments across 1,595 acres using a combination of mechanical mastication and hand-thinning.
This work supports the “Healthy Watersheds and Forests” goal for the Upper Mokelumne River watershed. The region is a vital water source for the Sierra Nevada and provides municipal drinking water to nearly two million people served by the East Bay Municipal Utility District. By improving forest conditions, the project reduces wildfire risk, supports water quality, and helps protect downstream communities.
Our Role
Stewardship West is supporting UMRWA and the Forest Service through on-the-ground implementation of fuels reduction treatments. Our team is applying both mechanical and hand-thinning methods to reduce hazardous fuels, restore forest structure, and enhance the overall resilience of the watershed.
This project was made possible with the help of the Sierra Nevada Conservancy.
